OOAK Gothic Girl by me, Geri G. Taylor. She has a music box that plays Brahms "Lullaby“ while moving her head around. I have VERY few dolls with music boxes so when you see that I've listed one...GRAB IT!  This is #24 of many of my unique Gothic Girls (& Guys), CrEePy Clowns, and Memento Mori Zombie Babies doll I am releasing this year!
Please watch the video as it is part of my description and includes details I might have missed in this listing.
If you are a collector of my dolls, then you know the time and effort I put into them. If this is the first one of my dolls you've seen, then let me tell you about them. Or you can check out many of my dolls online if you search for Geri G. Taylor (or g2taylor) OOAK Gothic Girl Porcelain Dolls.
FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES ONLY! NOT TO BE USED AS A TOY!
My Gothic Girls are inspired by the story of the Gore Orphanage*, the Cavan Orphanage Fire**, and Crybaby Lane ***.
I have created a series of OOAK (One of a Kind) Assemblage Art Dolls depicting the orphans killed in these fires.
Their theme being that of a fiery death was my inspiration of their hand-dyed clothing and streaked, sooty appearance.
Each doll is a repurposed mass-produced porcelain doll, or collectible that has been painted with acrylic paint and their features embellished with charcoal.
Many of the dolls were redressed in clothing that was not original to them.
Remnants of Tibetan Mongolian Lamb Wool / Hair Pelts were used for many of the dolls hair and some seams may be visible.
I have used synthetic wigs on some of the dolls.
If you're more interested in my process, visit my blog at Creative Daze with Geri.
I am a multimedia artist who usually crafts Santas but I fell in love with so many of the other artist's versions of Gothic/Zombie Dolls that I had to create some of my own.
My technique is very loose handed; so don't expect precision! My intension was to use irregular, sketchy lines and thick coats of paint to resemble lifeless skin sloughing off and dark, vacant eyes.
Because I did not wash the clothes after dying them, some dye residue may come off on your fingers when you handle them.
The porcelain dolls may have been mass-produced BUT I strive to make each one unique! All of the dolls are signed Geri G. Taylor on the torso.
Please keep in mind that some of the dolls were damaged or dirty when I purchased them and I have put more effort in what is visible. In most cases, the clothes are stitched on.
WARNING: Spray sealer/varnish was used as well as some glues considered "toxic" in their liquid form.
ALL of these dolls were in displayed/ played with condition and some may have come from a smoking home.
Expect some signs of wear, dust/dirt in crevices, minor scratches, scuffs, scrapes, paint rubs, etc.
Please look at my photos as they are part of the description and the camera can detect things I might have missed.
Please check out my other listings. I have other dolls listed!
I do combine shipping when possible.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
My home is nonsmoking but these dolls were purchased secondhand and might have come from a smoking home or may smell of dye, sealer, glue, paint, etc.
My shipping materials are stored in wooden storage building and may have a musty/woody smell.
*Gore Orphanage is the subject of a local legend in Northern Ohio, which refers to a supposedly haunted ruin near the city of Vermilion in Lorain County, Ohio.
The ruin is a building that formerly housed the Swift Mansion and later, the Light of Hope Orphanage, and is the subject of local urban legends, whereby the violent deaths of young children is alleged to have occurred.
The legend claims that in 1800s, a fire was set which killed many children and one African American woman, whose ghosts now haunt the ruins.
According to the legend, supernatural activity has occurred at the building site since its closure.
**The Cavan Orphanage fire occurred on the night of 23 February 1943 at St Joseph's Orphanage in Cavan, Ireland. 35 children and 1 adult employee died as a result. (TRUE STORY) Check it out on Wikipedia!
***Crybaby Lane in Raleigh North Caroline is site of a Roman Catholic orphanage. One night in 1958 when a fire broke out in the orphanage dormitory. The fire spread quickly through the building, and by the time the sleeping children were aware of the smoke and the heat filling the hallways of their only home it was too late. When the fire department arrived, the building had already been gutted, reduced to burnt beams and flame-broken bricks. Many of the children burned to death in the flames.
I also create dolls that I call my Asylum Kids who are inspired by this story:
Located in Laure, Maryland, FOREST HAVEN (AKA D.C. Training School) opened its doors in 1925 as a state-of-the-art institution where children with mental and developmental disabilities could receive care and training in the 22 buildings scattered over 250 acres.
Betty Evans, one parent and plaintiff in a lawsuit said, "Forest Haven is nothing but a warehouse for the retarded."
The residents were here because the schools failed them, educational institutions simply refused to teach them. Parents either couldn't, or didn't want to, take care of these kids.
As time wore on, the complex became almost a dumping ground where unwanted and children were dropped. Many residents should never have lived here, such as those who were deaf, epileptic, or dyslexic. In 1974 a nearby orphanage close and 20 children were moved to Forest Haven and reclassified from "orphans" to "retarded", that was the end of the search for another orphanage. A 1994 article said, "as patients died one by one, a Washington D.C. home for the mentally retarded became one of the nation's most deadly institutions."
There are several amazing articles about this actual AMERICAN HORROR STORY so check them out!
I also create CrEePy Clowns (self explanatory), baby dolls inspired the the Memento Mori Cabinet Cards of deceased infants wearing Christening Gown, and sometimes (but rarely) my Hauntingly Beautiful Enchanted Dolls.
So follow me and check out my other dolls when I post them!
